George Mason University welcomed more than 200 “Junior Patriots” to its campuses on Thursday, April 25, for Take Your Junior Patriot to Work. Faculty and staff brought the youth in their lives to campus to learn what it's like to work at George Mason.

Helping the community understand the parameters of recycling and composting is one of the biggest challenges in recycling and waste management, according to Kevin Brim, supervisor in Facilities Management at George Mason University. “It can be confusing trying to decide what is recycling, trash, or compostable,” said Brim. His team is working hard to change that.

The Office Supply Swap at George Mason University launched in Spring 2023, thanks to the efforts of the Staff Senate and University Sustainability.

As a photographer in Creative Services at George Mason University, Evan Cantwell spends his time at work capturing moments across the university. Cantwell is also a 25- year survivor of colorectal cancer. He has found ways to connect with other survivors and help spread awareness of colorectal cancer, which is now affecting more and more young people in the United States.

George Mason University student researchers were among those that gathered on the Fairfax Campus in March for the Access to Research and Inclusive Excellence (ARIE) National Conference. In addition to speakers and breakout sessions on various topics, the two-day conference opened with a poster session with 49 groups presenting their research.

To mark Transit Driver Appreciation Day, the George Mason University community expressed gratitude for the public transit drivers who help the Mason Nation get to school, work, and around town.

George Mason University’s Potomac Science Center hosted the Girls in STEAM Empowerment Conference on Thursday, February 29. This annual event welcomed 60 middle school students for a day of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM).

Rachel Wernicke has worked as an Army officer, psychologist, therapist, and coach. In 2019, she moved into her current role: associate dean and chief mental health officer at George Mason University.

George Mason University’s Contemporary Student Services has been recognized by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) for its innovative approach to serving post-traditional and off-campus students.

Doug McKenna is university registrar at George Mason University. Many things change over the years at a college or university, but the university registrar serves as the guardian of something permanent. “I’m responsible for maintaining the student record in perpetuity,” said McKenna.
