George Mason University’s Andrew Peterson was among the 12 educators from around the state who were formally recognized by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) with 2021 Outstanding Faculty Awards during a virtual ceremony on Tuesday, March 2.

Peterson, an assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, received the “Rising Star” award highlighting faculty with more than two complete years of full-time experience, but less than six. Two Rising Star recipients have been selected each year since 2010.

Peterson, who was notified of his selection late last year, is the 23rd faculty member at Mason to be selected for the awards since they began in 1987.

Watch the video below to see why the award was so meaningful to him.
