George Mason's Board of Visitors discussed the potential for a dedicated university center devoted to expanding academic programs and supports for former or current servicemembers and their families.

James Antony became provost and executive vice president at George Mason University on July 1. He comes to George Mason from the University of California San Diego where he served as Dean of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs. Prior to that he was a faculty member and administrator at the University of Washington, Yale University, and Harvard University.

George Mason University leadership, faculty, and staff officially welcomed the largest and most diverse incoming freshman class in the university’s history. The incoming undergraduate class—combined freshmen and transfers—also reached an all-time high for George Mason.

As part of a two-day annual planning conference and George Mason University Board of Visitors meeting, the BOV elected new officers on Friday, with an alumnus chosen to serve a two-year term as rector.

A record-setting number of students are earning degrees, and nearly 11,000 students total will be recognized for earning degrees or certificates.
