Biography
Dr. Rodman Turpin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Global and Community Health, College of Health and Human Services. Turpin's research focuses on novel methodologic approaches, including latent variable analysis and causal inference modeling, related to intersectionality and syndemic theory. This includes investigating racism, homophobia, and related stigma as key social determinants of health and intervention targets. His research explores relationships between these factors and HIV and STI prevention among racial/ethnic and sexual minorities, particularly Black sexual minority men. Community and research partnerships, including collaboration with community-based organizations, are core elements of his research. Before coming to Mason, Turpin was a Research Assistant Professor in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Maryland, College Park, School of Public Health, and the Microbiology Laboratory Instructional Coordinator at Howard University Hospital.
