Biography
Dr. Brenda Helen Sheingold is the Division Director for the Healthcare Administration Programs at the Department of Health Administration and Policy. She was awarded a dual-titled PhD from George Mason University (GMU) in Public Policy and Nursing, and a master’s degree from the Johns Hopkins Carey School of Business, where she also earned a Graduate Certificate in Women’s Leadership and Change Management. Her undergraduate degree is in Nursing, and she practiced as an Emergency Department nurse for 20 years. Dr. Sheingold helped pioneer the role of a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) in Arlington, Virginia to provide medical forensic care to survivors of sexual assault.
Since Dr. Sheingold accepted a permanent appointment as the Program and Division Director, George Mason’s MHA program has won multiple nationally competitive awards from the Commission on the Accreditation of Health Administration Education (CAHME). The most recent Innovation in Healthcare Administration Education award was conveyed in March 2025.
She joined GMU after serving 10 years as the Director of the Doctor in Nursing Practice (DNP) Healthcare Quality degree program at George Washington University and as Founding Faculty for the GW School of Nursing.
Dr. Sheingold has been selected twice as a Scholar-in-Residence at the University of Oxford, England, to study interdisciplinary curriculum development on contemporary antisemitism.
She is an avid fan of Pure Barre, has completed over 2,500 classes—and is still counting . . .
