Freshmen moving into the residence halls on Wednesday, Aug. 18, marks the start of the 2021-22 academic year at George Mason University.

George Mason University Professor Andrew Light was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as  assistant secretary for international affairs of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) on Aug. 11.

George Mason University Professor Aditya Johri has received a Fulbright-Nokia Distinguished Chair in Information and Communication Technologies award to conduct research in Finland during the 2021-22 academic year. Johri is a professor in the Department of Information Sciences and Technology in Mason's College of Engineering and Computing.

As COVID-19 infections increase in our region, especially the prevalence of the Delta variant, effective immediately, our university again will require all individuals on our campus to wear masks indoors, including classrooms and laboratories, regardless of vaccination status.

Beginning this fall, George Mason University’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) will offer a new graduate certificate in Spanish Heritage Language Education. The 15-credit program was approved in April and can be completed fully online.
