INTO Mason
INTO Mason provides English language instruction and assessment for postsecondary speakers of other languages who wish to learn English for academic, personal, or professional reasons.
English Language Proficiency Requirements
All Mason students must have full command of academic English to be successful in their studies. For this reason, Mason requires that applicants demonstrate English proficiency for admission consideration, regardless of citizenship. English proficiency may be demonstrated by an exam or a waiver listed below.
Please note that we will not accept exam scores older than two years.

Waivers for English Language Proficiency
The Office of Admissions will waive the English language proficiency test requirement for applicants who have completed one of the following:
- Undergraduate applicants who have completed four years of college preparatory English, excluding ESL and remedial English courses, at a Mason-recognized accredited secondary school or secondary school in one of the waiver countries below. Each English course must be graded C or better. Puerto Rico secondary schools are excluded, unless it holds a Mason-recognized accreditation.
- Undergraduate applicants who have completed six credits of English Composition from a Mason-recognized accredited institution grades of C or better.
- Graduate or undergraduate applicants with a bachelor’s or graduate degree conferred from a Mason-recognized U.S. institution or one of the waiver countries below.
- Graduate or undergraduate applicants who have completed a Mason-recognized bachelor’s degree from one of these countries:
