Position: Individual Giving Manager, Step Afrika! Location: Washington, DC

Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 Schedule: Telework/In-Person

Founded in 1994, Step Afrika! is the first professional dance company (501 c 3) to promote the African American tradition of stepping through innovative and inclusive performances, arts education programs, and community outreach. The company’s mission is to preserve, expand, and promote an appreciation for stepping through professional performances and to inspire young people through arts education programs that emphasize teamwork, commitment, and discipline.

Step Afrika! seeks to fully occupy its role as an innovative dance company, the leading Black cultural institution in the nation’s capital (Washington, DC), and a national thought leader in the field of Black arts. This will be achieved as part of a dynamic five-year strategic plan outlining a) performances, special events and education programs that engage the entire community, b) online technology to build a larger national presence, c) establishing important collaborations with artists, arts organizations and other relevant institutions, and d) continuing to build its national and international touring program.

The Individual Giving Manager will manage and expand Step Afrika!’s portfolio of annual donors with the key objectives of investigating first-time donors and creating new pathways for retention and growth of giving. The candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule as required - some weeknights and weekends – as dictated by performances and event activities. This position will report to Step Afrika!’s senior leadership.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Work with the Executive Director to manage and grow Step Afrika!’s individual donor portfolio (contributors under $1,000) through organized donor and prospect identification, management, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

· Process gifts, including tracking donations given through social media, matching gifts, and third parties such as Network for Good.

· Generate donor stewardship materials such as acknowledgment letters, tax receipts, and reports.

· Using PatronManager to run weekly reports of all donations and YTD reports. Reconciling monthly reports between Development and Finance.

· Manage funder and donor meetings, including scheduling, logistics, hospitality, and meeting briefs.

· Serve as a point person of the CRM database, PatronManager. Generate queries, reports, exports, and any other data as needed.

· Assist with coordination of cultivation and stewardship events for donors.

· Interface with Development and Finance teams to fulfill information requests and maintain reporting accuracy.

· Coordination of Annual Reports, Donor Presentations, Annual Appeal, Gala Materials, and complex mail merges.

· Support other special events as needed.

 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor's degree in a related field. A master’s degree in a related field is a plus.

· A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in fundraising, nonprofit, and/or with a dance company or arts organization.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Strong attention to detail.

· Professional and ethical work behavior with ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

· Ability to work independently within a fast-paced team environment.

· Proven organizational, multi-tasking, and project management skills.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Database experience (Salesforce/PatronManager) is highly preferred.

· Willingness to work flexible hours to participate in coverage of Step Afrika!’s performances and special events.
