 Arlington Visual Arts Studio Tour Seeks Part-Time Studio Director

The Studio Director position with Arlington Visual Arts Studio Tour is a part-time role with monthly online meetings. Candidates do not have to live in Arlington, but somewhere in the DMV would be necessary so they can help with coordinating our event(s). The main event is usually in the Fall in September. The minimum stipend for this administrative role is $2,000, with additional compensation possible if the person is capable of taking on additional roles based on their skills. The director role *only* would be an average of 2-4 hours a week, with fewer hours in the off-season and more in the few months leading up to the event. 

An ideal candidate would be someone looking for more experience in the arts administration field or who has a recent degree in arts administration or art history and is looking to gain more real-world experience. 

Job Description:
The Director of AVAST oversees and coordinates the operations of the annual studio tour in Arlington, VA, making sure the tour runs smoothly. General responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Serving as main contact person for artists and the public
  • Organizing the call for artists
  • Compiling and confirming artist studio information
  • Disseminating artist studio information as needed for organization and promotion of the tour
  • Coordinating with the managers of fundraising, press, graphic design, social media, printed materials, and web
  • Hosting monthly meetings of the management team
  • Attending quarterly meetings of the board

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to serving the art community in Arlington, VA
  • Leadership experience in the arts, non-profit world, or business
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and with others (mainly remotely)
  • Ability to work from home and participate in and host Zoom meetings
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage interns and volunteers
  • Digital literacy
  • Familiarity with the Google Suite, specifically Google Drive
  • Competency creating and working with spreadsheets
  • Understanding of basic image editing
  • Familiarity with Mailchimp, Survey Monkey, and Wordpress a plus

The position is part time and contractual. Most work is performed April – October, but the commitment is throughout the calendar year. The minimum stipend for the director position is $2000 annually, and may increase based on sponsorships and the possibility of additional events. Work load is estimated to be at least 90 hours per year, but the right candidate will spend as much time as needed to manage operations effectively. Additional Management Roles

Graphic Designer: Design printable poster, eposter, banner images, sponsor brochure, and any other promotional graphics. Must have software to facilitate design work, such as InDesign and/or Photoshop. Manage intern to help with above.

Web Designer: Update content, including registration form, dynamic map, and artist directory on Wordpress site. Upload images, maintain plugins and themes, and troubleshoot problems. Integrate with online payment portal. Provide artist registration support. Manage intern to help with above.
