FAQs: Campus Life, Student Services

Are there plans to help freshman students meet people and form a community?

  • The Preamble, held the week before classes start, and Welcome2Mason, held throughout September, will combine traditional events with new educational and social experiences. Some will be virtual events, while others will take place on campus.
  • You can also join a Virtual Learning Community, which is a group of students who share passions and interests.
  • Check out Mason360, where you can find a wide selection of student organizations to join.
  • Mason's fraternity and sorority community has more than 1,400 members, incorporating more than 40 national and international fraternities and sororities.

I lead a registered student organization. Can my organization members meet?

Some co-curricular events and programs will be held in person, and staff are determining which modifications are needed to follow public health requirements.

Members of student organizations that plan events must take event management training by September 20, 2020.

Organizations can set up contactless check-in via Mason 360.

Will there be restrictions on access to buildings and recreation centers?

  • You'll need a Mason ID card to get access to most buildings.
  • Only residents and workers will be allowed in Mason residence halls; we're sorry, but you can't have guests.
  • Recreation facilities and pools will be open, but you'll need to follow health and safety guidelines while exercising or participating in an athletic event. Locker rooms and some other amenities will remain closed.
  • Libraries will continue to provide expanded virtual services to promote physical distancing amid a staged opening phase. Once the central library opens, only university students, faculty, and staff can come in. Requests for access to library collections and appointments for in-person services will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

How can I access Student Services?

All student services will be offered both virtually and face-to-face as we enter the fall semester. The university will post signs notifying customers and employees of additional precautions required in service areas.
