Degree Celebrations

What are Degree Celebrations?
Each college or school hosts their own degree celebrations, where bachelors and masters graduates are recognized by name and photographed on stage.
So what is Commencement?
At the commencement ceremony, doctoral candidates are individually recognized and hooded; bachelor and master graduates are recognized as a group at their seats.

Please note that tickets for Spring 2024 Degree Celebrations are available through the ticket links on this page for no charge/no service fee. This is the only authorized source for ceremony tickets. Please be aware that reports of individuals selling tickets and charging service fees have been reported. This activity is suspect and caution is advised.

Your college or school organizes and hosts your degree celebration, which is where you will be recognized by name and photographed on stage.

  • All graduates are individually recognized and photographed on stage.
  • Celebrations include select speakers and performances.
  • Caps and gowns are worn.
  • All students can claim up to 6 tickets.
  • Doctoral students will not be hooded at the degree celebration ceremonies

Plan to arrive one hour before the start of your ceremony.  Follow signs to the graduates' lineup area. If weather permits, graduates will walk in a procession into the arena at the beginning of the ceremony.

Main doors open for guests one hour prior to the ceremony.

Graduates are encouraged to attend both the official university commencement ceremony and their college or school's degree celebration ceremony

Degree Celebration Ticket Information

Find your degree celebration in the chart below and use the link in the right hand column to reserve tickets for your guests. Graduates can use their G# (including the uppercase G) as their one-time use password, add tickets to their cart, and then finish their purchase to claim their tickets. Once tickets have been claimed, they can log into their Ticketmaster account and transfer tickets to family/friends. All tickets are mobile delivery. Be sure your guests pull up their tickets in the Ticketmaster App on their phone(s) prior to arriving at the venue.

If you experience a problem requesting degree celebration tickets, please allow several hours and try again. The EagleBank Arena/Ticketmaster system does experience intermittent temporary delays in service.

Have more tickets than you need?

All guests to Degree Celebrations require tickets to attend. Many students reserve the max number of tickets they can as a precaution, but will only actually use a few of them for their guests. If you received tickets to either Commencement or a Degree Celebration that you will no longer be needing, please return them as follows so that they may be redistributed to other guests:

To return your unneeded tickets:

  1. Locate your tickets in your Ticketmaster account.
  2. Click “Transfer Tickets.”
  3. Select each ticket you would like to transfer.
  4. Click “Continue.”
  5. Enter “GMU Event” in the Name field.
  6. Enter “gmuevent@gmu.edu” in the Email Address field.
  7. Click “Send.”
