Graduation events will take place rain or shine, although extreme weather alerts may cause delays /cancellations. In the event of extreme weather, you'll get an email notification, and a notice will be posted on the main Graduation page.

Mason's Patriot Procession is open to all graduates, while the university's schools and colleges plan Mini Ceremonies. You must be registered to participate.

Please plan to arrive early, as traffic will be heavy.

Mini Ceremonies, Outside EagleBank Arena, Fairfax Campus

Gates open one hour prior to the ceremony, which will last about an hour.  Seating is general admission. Sign language Interpreters will be present.

You can bring bottled water and rain gear to this venue, and attendees can take video and still photos.Portable restrooms will be at the back of the parking lot. 

When your tickets are scanned, you'll be escorted to the seating area. Special-needs seating will be available.    

Graduates will be seated with their guests in pods of up to four people.  You must wear a face covering and maintain six feet of distance between pods at all times.  Check the EagleBank Security Policy for a general list of safety restrictions.  

Mini Ceremony graduates must wear Mason regalia. If you haven't purchased yours yet, you must go to a Mason Bookstore, as online ordering is no longer available. The Johnson Center Bookstore will open at 9 a.m. each day from May 10 through 14 if you need to buy regalia.  

If you ordered your regalia, orders are in process and will be shipped from Salem, Virginia. They should have arrived in the Northern Virginia area within a day of purchase. Customers should have gotten emails with tracking information when the order shipped. Most customers should get their regalia by the weekend of May 8.

At the ceremony, graduates will receive a card to fill out for the reader. Fill out both sides and include:

  • Full name
  • Degree and Major.

For example:

  • Pat Johnson
  • Bachelor of Science, Biology.  

When directed, graduates will bring the card to the stage and hand it to the reader. 

Marshals will direct rows of graduates to line up to walk across the stageParticipants must maintain six feet of social distance at all times.    

At the end of the ceremony, remain seated until your row is dismissed by the faculty marshal.

Patriot Procession, Soccer Stadium or Mason Pond, Fairfax Campus 

Graduates may bring up to eight guests.  

You can bring bottled water and rain gear to this venue, and attendees can take video and still photos.Portable restrooms will be at the back of the parking lot. 

Tickets will not be issued, but all attendees must check in at arrival to be admitted. Bring your registration confirmation and a complete list of your guests.  You will be admitted as an entire party. 

If you are participating in the Patriot Procession on Friday, May 14, go to the venue you selected (soccer stadium or Mason Pond) when you registered for the event. The Mason Pond location will only be used for Friday events, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mason Pond stage.
