Records FAQs
I am unable to access an SAT and/or ACT exam due to COVID-19. How will this affect my application or admission to Mason?
We know many students were not able to take standardized testing due to test cancellations throughout the United States and abroad.
We understand the stress that this causes and want to reassure you that this will not negatively impact your admission to George Mason University.
Our institution has offered a Score Optional policy for many years because we believe that a student’s ability to be successful in college is not necessarily reflected in their performance on standardized tests. Score Optional provides an opportunity for you to be considered for admission without submitting standardized test scores.
We understand you may not wish to submit standardized test scores or you may be unable to submit them due to COVID-19 as a component of the application process. That’s ok! We take a holistic approach to review each application with great care.
If you have questions about our Score Optional policy or if it is right for you, please contact your Admissions Counselor.

If we have a question about a grade that we are seeing, we would reach out to the student’s school counselor. Despite the change in grading scale, we encourage you to continue to do well in your academic coursework.
I only have unofficial copies of my high school transcript. Will Mason accept these to complete my application?
If you are having difficulty completing your admission application, please contact your Mason Admission Counselor for assistance.
